setting goals for your business

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible”

I love this quote by Tony Robbins, as it articulates for me the importance of having a clear direction and knowing where I am heading with my business.

Goal and outcome setting doesn’t have to be painful or lengthy. It’s about clarity to help you to keep moving forward towards the intentions you have for your business in the future.

I typically set my goals during January and find that it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the year, as well as set clear and positive outcomes for the next 12 months. It’s so important to look back as well as forward; to celebrate the successes we have had, reflect the outcomes we have created, and remember the people who have come into our lives for a specific reason (even if we didn’t realise it at the time).

Reflection

One simple method for reflecting on the past three, six, or twelve months is to consider the different swim lanes of your life; this could include work, your business, health, relationships, finances, and so on.

Then, taking each one in turn consider the rating you would have given it at the beginning of the year on a scale of 0 – 10. Reflect on what was happening in that part of your life and the reason for your rating.

Now tune in to what rating you would give that area of your life now and what it is that has happened which has created that shift, either up or down. What successes have you had, what challenges you have faced, and what changes have occurred.

I love doing this as it really encourages me to explore the highs and lows, to surface experiences and memories, and to see just how far I have come, despite the obstacles and challenges.

Looking forward

Once you have completed this you’re all set to work on the outcomes you want to achieve over the next twelve months in each area of your life; what you want to manifest and what changes you want to make.

Try not to be too specific about exactly what it will be or how it will happen, as this can cause you to miss something that the universe is sending you which might be something even better than you imagined!

In my experience it’s best not to set too many goals and I tend to set three big goals for a 12-month period, along with some smaller ones to achieve.

Once you have your goals, it’s essential to outline the steps you are going to take to achieve them. If you’d like some help with this, you can read my blog about getting started with planning

So, if you haven’t already, why not set aside some time to reflect on where you are now and what you want to achieve in the next twelve months.

Take care,

Jo
