knowing what content to share

People are drawn to other people and to stories or topics they can relate to. Knowing what to share in your content is an essential part of setting up and growing your business as an NLP Practitioner.

In this blog I look at how you can begin to identify the topics which are going to grab the attention of the people you want to be able to help.

If you’ve read my earlier blog about overcoming the fear of visibility, then you will probably have chosen your visibility platform. But then what? How do you decide what to write, or talk about? How do you know what it is that people want to read or listen to?

This is where knowing who your ideal client is becomes very important, otherwise you are just picking random topics and end up diluting your message; people will not know whether you are the person to help them.

It would be going into a bookstore and being confronted with hundreds of other different products; you would be confused about whether this store was going to be able to meet your individual needs and would probably leave the store.

Your ideal client

Do you know who your ideal client is?

If not, take time to consider who they are, what their life may be like, and what their circumstances are. Once you have this written down, move on to thinking about what problems they want to solve and what outcomes they are looking to achieve, or what changes they want to make in their lives that will enable them to be, do, and have more of what they want.

It can be helpful to use perceptual positions here and really get into their shoes, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, and thinking their thoughts. Really imagine you are your ideal client, who you may have been at some point in the past, if you are looking to coach people who have been through similar experiences to you.

Identifying what they want to read or listen to

The next step is to challenge yourself to write a list of 99 problems or outcomes all associated with your ideal client.

I know, I know… yes that does sound an awful lot! But I can assure you that once you get into the shoes of your ideal client the list will begin to grow quite rapidly.

Journaling can help with this; write ‘what problems do my ideal clients want to solve and what outcomes are they looking to achieve’ at the top of your journal page, then allow you mind to surface ideas. Write everything down for now and keep going until you have at least 3 pages of ideas. Then put it to one side and come back to it the next day, review your ideas, and begin to refine them.

Your 99 list now gives you 99 topics to talk or write about; things that you know will resonate with your ideal client; subjects that they will be interested to read or listen to.

Check whether there is a natural sequence for sharing the topics and plan content to save time at the point you want to use it. In the early days you may have lots of time, but as your business grows, the more time savers you can develop, the better!

Will creating your 99 list be one of your intentions for this week?

Take care,

Jo
